Kimono Workshop – Dress, Learn, Experience with Hitomi Harama
Sunday August 9, 2026 12:00pm - 1:00pm PDT
This presentation includes a hands-on workshop introducing the basics of traditional Japanese kimono for both women and men through live demonstrations and audience participation.
Discover the purpose of the different layers, accessories, and tying techniques while learning how kimono styles vary by season, occasion, age, and level of formality.

Participants will see step-by-step dressing techniques, have the opportunity to ask questions,
and may even volunteer to be dressed in a kimono during the demonstration (Bring your kimono if you have any questions on wearing them).
We'll also explore the history and cultural significance of the kimono, explain the differences between men's and women's garments, and discuss how this traditional clothing continues to
influence modern Japanese fashion, festivals, and even in anime and popular media.
Whether you're considering your first kimono, looking to improve your cosplay accuracy, or hoping to deepen your appreciation of Japanese tradition, this presentation offers a fascinating look at the craftsmanship and etiquette that have made the kimono a timeless symbol of Japanese culture.
